About the Event

The Minority Health Conference, which is the largest and longest-running student-led health conference in the country, aims to raise awareness around minority health and mobilize students, academics, and community members to take action for change. The conference was founded and is led by students at The Gillings School of Global Public Health, at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Since 2019, the Center for the Study of Racism, Social Justice and Health has held a satellite Minority Health Conference at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health.

We are excited to announce that this year's theme is Body & Soul: The Past Present, and Future of Health Activism. Body and Soul is based on the recognition that health does not only refer to one's physical body, but rather the whole person. There is great significance in acknowledging and tending to individuals' mental and social-wellbeing. It is important that public health focuses on the whole person rather than just their physical well-being.

Health activism is also not a new phenomenon in this country. This year's conference will focus on the activism that is currently taking place in the public health community while paying homage to the activism of those that came before us.
