Ensuring Racial Equity while Responding to the COVID-19 Pandemic

As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic expands taking root in the US and elsewhere, we at the UCLA Center for the Study of Racism, Social Justice & Health are moving quickly to ensure the needs of the most vulnerable members of society are not overlooked.

We need your involvement to provide the timely, actionable support that public health officials, community organizations, and others will rely on. Our goal is to ensure equity remains front and center in the efforts to contain the pandemic. This work will support and advance, not duplicate, that of on-the-ground public health officials.

If you have time, expertise or other resources you can volunteer in your community or nationally, please send us:

  • a 1-3 sentence description of that expertise, skill or volunteer interest

  • your contact information, and

  • details about when you are available

If you are a public health official or policy maker needing expert input regarding particular communities and historical patterns of epidemics and inequalities, you may make your request for expertise or volunteers here.

If you are a community member or alum, thank you for your work on the front lines of public health. Over the coming days and weeks, let’s strengthen our lines of communication. What are you witnessing? What concerns are coming up for you? What do you need from academic  researchers and others who are committed to equity? Again, tell us and make any requests you have here.

I look forward to linking arms with you as we move aggressively and efficiently to contain this epidemic.

In struggle for health equity,

Chandra
